Read below to learn more about what it means for you.
New Sleek User Interface (UI)
Say hello to a fresh, modern design now with native support for dark mode! Our sleek new interface aims to make navigating through the app a breeze, so you can find what you need faster and with less effort.
We implemented industry-leading accessibility standards to ensure that everyone can use our app comfortably. Our new Android app conforms to the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). These guidelines are internationally recognized standards that aim to make websites, apps, and other digital assets accessible to people with a broad range of accessibility needs.
From improved color contrast to intuitive navigation features, we’re committed to making sure that everyone can enjoy a seamless experience.
More Customization Options
Our new Android app is all about putting you in control. It’s why we introduced more customization options and are giving you the option to personalize your home screen, which means you can put features like connection information front and center for easy access.
Simply press the customization button on the top right hand corner of the screen to choose which widgets you want to keep or hide. You can also drag and reshuffle what you see on the homescreen.
But that’s not all – we also introduced a handy server sorting feature, which lets you quickly see which are the fastest servers available. You can easily find the best server for your needs.
Lastly, we now support automation. You can predefine your own set of network rules, which will determine how the VPN connection reacts to a network event. For example, you can choose to automatically connect to unknown Wi-Fi networks while deeming your mobile connection secure.
Over the course of the year, we will be extending this intuitive UI to our other operating systems.
Now with Shadowsocks
Obfuscation is here! Now with our Android app you can set up your own Shadowsocks server, or connect to one of our own. You can easily do so from the home screen. If you are on a restricted Wi-Fi network, Shadowsocks will improve your connection chances.
A Modernized Codebase
We undertook a significant overhaul of our codebase, and decided to rewrite the entire application in Kotlin. Kotlin is a programming language known for its conciseness and clarity.
We made sure to adhere to clean architecture patterns. We’re confident this strategic shift will facilitate quicker development cycles, which means we’ll integrate new features seamlessly in the future. Of course, just like you’d expect from PIA, our new code will be open-source. We invite you to inspect our code on our GitHub page.
