Private Internet Access Transparency Report Q2 2024

July marks the beginning of the third quarter, which means it’s time for our quarterly Transparency Report. 2024 marks the year we decided to increase the frequency of our Transparency Report from a biannual cycle to a quarterly one.
You can read a summary of the numbers on our dedicated Transparency Report page on our website, but we will go more in-depth below.
PIA’s Q2 2024 Transparency Report
We’ll look at the notices we received from April 1 through June 30. Before getting into it, here’s a brief summary of each type of legal request we receive.
Here is an overview of the notices we received this quarter.
Legal Processes | Received | Logs Produced |
Court orders | 0 | 0 |
Subpoenas | 27 | 0 |
Warrants | 3 | 0 |
Foreign notices | 30 | 0 |
State notices | 13 | 0 |
Federal notices | 17 | 0 |
Foreign and informal requests | 30 | 0 |
Despite these numbers, we cannot produce any logs to the relevant authorities. We have a strict no-logs policy in place. Our no-logs policy means that we do not provide logs because there are none to provide. We do not collect, monitor, or store any data regarding your online activities.

We Concluded Our Second Security Audit
We invited Deloitte Audit Romania to perform another security audit. Auditors reviewed our server network and incident management systems to ensure alignment with our privacy policies. Additionally, they reviewed our Dedicated IP token-based system. We’re excited to share the results with you through the Client Control Panel, and we’re looking forward to exploring opportunities for future audits.
We Redesigned Our Android & Android TV Apps
We launched our new Android app featuring a UI redesign and updated code in April. A month later, we released a redesigned Android TV app as well. Besides more customization options, our latest Android TV app is now compatible with Dedicated IP, which you can get for a small fee added to your PIA subscription. This IP will be uniquely assigned to you, reducing the risk of blacklisting and server congestion.
Our Head of Product Discussed Privacy Considerations
Himmat Bains, our Head of Product, was featured in the Associated Press Buyline section, discussing smart homes. He discussed setting up a smart home and securing such a network given IoT’s notorious lack of robust security features.
We’re Keeping an Eye on Current Trends
As privacy activists, we continuously monitor for any developments that could impact the digital environment. The past three months have not been favorable for online privacy.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee Signed Divisive Age Verification Bill
The new bill requires Tennessee residents to provide some form of identification to access adult content online. Given similar bills nationwide, more and more people have raised concerns over data privacy and censorship.
Congress Reauthorized Surveillance Law
Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) is a provision that allows the US government to conduct surveillance for the purpose of acquiring foreign intelligence information. In 2013, Edward Snowden’s revelations about extensive surveillance brought significant public attention. This time, the law included reforms to address previous FBI overreach. Privacy activists however still have concerns.
Attackers Are Targeting Schools
Centerline Public Schools in Michigan canceled classes on May 28 due to a ransomware attack that disrupted all electronic communication systems, including phones, security cameras, food services, Wi-Fi, and educational software. Parents expressed concerns about the security of student data since the scope of the breach still isn’t clear.
Ahead of the US elections, we’re cautious about potential cyber threats. From phishing attacks and malware to sophisticated ransomware, we expect to see an increase in attacks that plague the digital landscape in the upcoming months.
Our priority is to provide you with a secure and reliable VPN experience, and our mission holds true now more than ever. Besides improving our service, we’ll continue to provide quarterly updates, so make sure to check back in three months!
